Tourism is one of the most important sectors that hasn’t been exploited well by Ghanaians to maximize its fullest potential. Due to this, many communities and towns in Ghana are developing strategies to help promote their tourist sites located within their specific community to help raise revenues as well as promote their respective culture.
One of such communities is Iture, a sub town of Elmina which recently enstooled Rashad McCrorey Nsarahwehen (tourism Chief) with the name Nana Kofi Kukudurfo I.
One of the strategic reasons of he been chosen was to promote their local tourism.
As a tour operator with so many years of experience, Rashad McCrorey has brought thousands of tourists from all over the world to Ghana.
His installation ceremony was so colorful and well organized. Many dignitaries like Sammy Awuku
(National Organizer of NPP and C.E.O of Ghana lotteries Authorities) and many more were seen gracing his ceremony.
One of the beautiful things that caught my eyes was the kente he wore for his ceremony.
Speaking to him after his installation on his choice of colors in his kente, he said that he has an interesting story behind his choice of color for his royal wear. He stated that he beliefs in the spiritual powers and natural effects that various colors have on people and the environment. Been from Harlem, New York a place known for fashion, style and creativity, he McCrorey or Nana Kukudurfo 1 who is a single man in his 40’s expects to stay true to his Harlem roots and be a fashionable and stylish Nana he added.
“The purple and gold I chose to wear for my installation ceremony was my request to the ancestors and gods to give me spiritual insight and wisdom, while blessing me with an abundance of spiritual, material and financial wealth”.
“Purple is known by many as a color that represents royalty, however, in addition to royalty, purple, has spiritual properties. Purple is a color that builds on intuition, instinct, psychic abilities, and spiritual insight. With my newly enstooled role of chief of tourism, as I continue to learn the craft of chieftaincy in the physical realm, I also need to be in tune with my instincts and intuition when making decisions.
“Gold symbolizes wealth and prosperity. As Elmina’s Chief of tourism part of my duties is to bring wealth and finances to Iture, to Elmina and continue to bring wealth to all of Ghana as a country.
One of the reasons I accepted becoming Chief of Tourism is due to my previous experience in tourism and understanding it is a win/win situation for everyone involved. Handled correctly, not only will my personal wealth will be increased but also the wealth of the village, town, region and country that has promoted me with the prestigious honor and great responsibility” he stated.
